The right-hander spent five-plus seasons with the Red Sox

Former longtime Boston Red Sox reliever Ryan Brasier is reportedly finalizing a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers.

MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo reported the news late Friday morning and Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News provided further details about Brasier’s contract.

“Ex-Red Sox news, per sources: Ryan Brasier is finalizing a deal with his hometown Rangers,” Cotillo posted on X. “Brasier was limited to 26 innings with the Cubs last year and had a 3.17 FIP.”

“Confirming this: Brasier in process of finishing off a minor league deal with invite to big league camp to compete in bullpen. Wichita Falls native who went to Weatherford College,” Grant added on X.

Brasier signed with the Red Sox in March 2018 and spent five-plus seasons with Boston before being released in May 2023.

The right-hander was a key part of the Red Sox’s bullpen during the 2018 World Series championship campaign, posting a 1.60 ERA and career-low 0.77 WHIP across 34 regular season appearances. Brasier was even better in that year’s playoffs, allowing just one run on seven hits with five walks and seven strikeouts over nine games covering 8 2/3 innings pitched.

He earned a career-high seven saves in 2019 and finished his time in Boston with a 7-8 record, 4.55 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 211 strikeouts across 209 2/3 innings.

Brasier signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in June 2023 and won his second World Series ring in 2024.

The 38-year-old was traded to the Chicago Cubs in February 2025 and was limited to 26 innings last season due to multiple groin injuries.
