Seahawks Defender Explains Telling Super Bowl Game Plan For Drake Maye, Patriots

'We knew he's their whole team'

The Seattle Seahawks executed their plan when stymying Drake Maye in a Super Bowl LX win over the New England Patriots.

Seattle’s defense dominated at Levi’s Stadium, sacking Maye six times while forcing two interceptions and a fumble. Uchenna Nwosu delivered the dagger in a 29-13 win when returning a pick 45 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

After the game, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Nwosu said the Seahawks were confident they could stop New England’s offense if they could “get to Maye” and “disrupt him.”

“We knew he’s their whole team,” Nwosu said. “… We knew if we affected him, their whole game plan would be nothing.”

While Nwosu’s assessment of the regular season’s No. 3 offense seems harsh, the Patriots had no answers for Seattle’s defense at Santa Clara.

The Seahawks accomplished their goal with 11 quarterback hits, including one from Nwosu. They also contained Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson to 42 combined rushing yards on 13 carries, none of which went for 10 or more yards.

Maye finished with 295 passing yards and two touchdowns, but he posted his worst single-game QBR (16.3) of the season. The Seahawks held the Patriots scoreless for three quarters before they finally mustered two touchdown drives with a double-digit deficit.

After uplifting the offense throughout a breakout year, Maye didn’t have much time Sunday to make the downfield throws that placed him one vote shy of an MVP award.
