Stefon Diggs Hopes Performance Sunday Will Help Earn Him Spot In Hall of Fame

Diggs has 11,504 career receiving yards

Stefon Diggs turned out to be just what New England Patriots fans were asking for when they begged the team to sign a proven wide receiver No. 1 in the offseason.

He came to New England after tearing his ACL just halfway through his first season with the Houston Texans. This led skeptics across the league to doubt whether or not the 32-year-old receiver could return to his pre-injury dominance.

Diggs proved those doubters wrong by recording his seventh consecutive 1,000-yard season (not counting his 2024 injury year).

Diggs played in every single game, led the team in yards and targets and became the organization’s first 1,000-yard receiver since Julian Edelman in 2019.

He is hoping his performance in his first career Super Bowl appearance will serve as another feather in the cap of what he believes could be a Hall of Fame resumé.

“I just know that it (would) help my case a little bit,” Diggs said. “I always wanted that, though. I’m never gonna shun or run away from wanting to be a Hall of Famer or wanting to be a guy that played this game and be respected, so I don’t run from that.”

So, does Diggs have a HOF case?

What do you think?  Leave a comment.

We know the game is different now than it was in the past, so let’s compare Diggs’ resumé to some of the recent inductees.

Diggs has 11,504 yards in his 11-year career. He has caught 74 touchdowns and recorded nearly 1,000 receiving yards in the playoffs alone.

It will likely take at least three more seasons of near 1,000-yard output, but surprisingly, the answer is yes — Stefon Diggs does have a Hall of Fame resumé.

When directly compared to gold jacket recipient Andre Johnson, Diggs has 120 fewer receptions and 3,000 fewer yards. However, Diggs has played more than 30 fewer games.

Johnson’s peak was not terribly higher than Diggs’ either, with both players posting multiple seasons with more than 1,400 yards.

A Lombardi Trophy would certainly go a long way in the eyes of the voters as well.
