Why Drake Maye’s MVP Snub Could Be Super Bowl Blessing For Patriots

He finished second to Matthew Stafford

Drake Maye won’t enter Super Bowl LX as the 2025 MVP. Perhaps that slight could help him lead the New England Patriots to a championship triumph over the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday.

Maye narrowly missed out on an MVP award, finishing one first-place vote shy of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. The snub may bode well for the Patriots based on past Tom Brady trends.

Jordan Moore of DraftKings noted that Brady won three Super Bowls after finishing anywhere from second to fifth in the MVP voting. On the other hand, his only three Super Bowl losses in 10 appearances each came in his three MVP campaigns.

Chances are that’s just a mere coincidence, but the voters may have just gifted the Patriots more ammunition ahead of the Super Bowl.

The Patriots seem well aware of their underdog status against the Seahawks. Now they can add Maye’s runner-up MVP finish to the bulletin board and show the world why the 23-year-old deserved the honor.

In fact, a former Patriots champion crossed his fingers for this exact scenario two months ago.

Having lost a Super Bowl after Brady’s final MVP win, former Patriots center David Andrews said he hoped Maye didn’t win the award days before playing in the Super Bowl.

“Imagine this team. They do the unthinkable — I don’t think it’s that unthinkable, but they go to the Super Bowl,” Andrews said in early December. “They’re sitting in a hotel room Friday night. They wake up having breakfast that morning. Can you imagine if this kid doesn’t win the MVP? I don’t know if it’s gonna be brought up, but I think they’re gonna be p*ssed off. And I liked them p*ssed off.”
