Yankees Reportedly Re-Sign Former MVP To One-Year Deal

The veteran is headed back to the Bronx.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the New York Yankees are re-signing first baseman Paul Goldschmidt to a one-year contract.

Goldschmidt’s 2025 season with the Yankees marked his first year in the American League after six seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and eight with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Signed to a one-year, $12.5 million contract, the veteran first baseman appeared in 146 games, recording 489 at-bats. He batted .274 with 76 runs scored, 134 hits (including 31 doubles and 10 home runs), 45 RBIs, and 5 stolen bases. His on-base percentage stood at .328, slugging .403, for an OPS of .731 and a 103 wRC+ (slightly above league average).

Goldschmidt showed early-season promise with a strong start in the first two months, posting higher production before settling into a more modest output overall. His power numbers dipped to a career-low 10 home runs in a full season, though he maintained solid contact and contributed defensively at first base.

A memorable moment came during a series against his former Cardinals team in August, where he received a warm reception in St. Louis and delivered three hits in a Yankees victory that helped secure a sweep.

Career-wise, Goldschmidt remains one of the game’s most accomplished first basemen. Through the end of 2025, he has played 15 MLB seasons (debuting in 2011), amassing 2,190 hits, 372 home runs, 1,232 RBIs, 1,280 runs, and 174 stolen bases across 7,608 at-bats. His career batting line reads .288/.378/.504 with an .882 OPS and 63.8 WAR. He earned an NL MVP award (2022), multiple Gold Gloves, Silver Sluggers, and All-Star selections during his prime years.
