UPDATE 11:26 a.m. ET: New England Patriots safety Marte Mapu took the field in shoulder pads and a helmet roughly 25 minutes after the start of practice.

ORIGINAL STORY: FOXBORO, Mass. — Both New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore and safety Marte Mapu were absent at the start of Day 4 on Sunday.

Barmore and Mapu missed the start of the training camp session Friday, too, before they came out to the field and did not practice.

The Patriots also featured a new face, defensive tackle Josiah Bronson, who wore No. 75. New England announced the signing as players took the field. The Patriots opened up the roster spot Friday when they released a depth cornerback.

Antonio Gibson, who was on the non-football injury list, was back on the field wearing a helmet and shoulder pads. Gibson apparently was taken off NFI since he was participating in the early going.

Kendrick Bourne, who is on the physically unable to perform list, also took the field and went through stretching, but was not wearing a helmet or shoulder pads.
