Jalen Reagor won't be contributing to the New England Patriots wide receiver unit for the rest of the season.

The Patriots announced Tuesday they released Reagor from the practice squad. Reagor clearly was disgruntled over his lack of a role this season as after a solid preseason he did not get elevated from the practice squad for New England's first two games.

Reagor initially signed with the Patriots practice squad at the start of last season after the 2020 first-round pick was cut by the Minnesota Vikings. Reagor ended up appearing in 11 games for the Patriots in 2023, in which he tallied seven receptions for 138 yards. He also produced on special teams by returning a kickoff for a touchdown in New England's road finale against the Buffalo Bills.

It seemed like that was the path again to Reagor sticking with the Patriots and even with a crowded receiver room, the 25-year-old TCU product made New England's initial 53-man roster, but surprisingly was cut a day later.

Reagor re-signed with the Patriots practice squad, but couldn't work up his way up the depth chart with Ja'Lynn Polk, Tyquan Thornton, K.J. Osborn, DeMario Douglas and Javon Baker ahead of him. That grouping didn't exactly light it up either -- Patriots receivers compiled just three catches for 19 yards in the Week 2 loss to the Seattle Seahawks -- which probably compounded Reagor's frustrations.

The Patriots are also expected to get Kendrick Bourne back from injured reserve sometime after Week 4, solidifying that there was no room for Reagor on New England's roster.
