Bruins Wrap: Boston Wins Power Play Showcase Over Avalanche

The Boston Bruins kicked off a three-game road trip on Wednesday night with a 5-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena.

With the victory, Boston improved to 3-2-0 while Colorado dropped to 0-4-0.

Boston and Colorado took full advantage of their power-play chances in their meeting on Wednesday night, which featured plenty of scoring.

Five of the game’s eight goals between the two teams came on the man advantage. The Avalanche put together a perfect night, scoring on all three opportunities and only three shots against Bruins goaltender Joonas Korpisalo. Boston also put together an efficient night with a pair of power-play goals off the sticks of Charlie Coyle and David Pastrnak.

Those numbers marked a change in Boston’s trend from the beginning of the season. They entered the game with just an 11% conversion rate on the power play while killing 90.9% of their penalties, good for fifth-best in the NHL.

A tough-nosed performance that included a brief exit from Brad Marchand, an inaugural Boston fight for Nikita Zadorov and the first victory for Korpisalo added an extra layer to the win, elevating the Bruins back above the .500 mark to start the road trip right.
