Are Patriots Secretly Hoping Mac Jones Plays In London Matchup?

The Patriots-Jaguars matchup in London might not have national appeal to it, but it does mark the first time New England will play Mac Jones.

Jacksonville acquired the 2021 first-round pick last offseason to be the backup for Trevor Lawrence. Jones had a controversial end to his Patriots tenure after dysfunctional play-calling and reported tension in the locker room.

There’s a slim chance Jones will face some of his former teammates, but one of them commented on how much anticipation there was to play against the signal-caller.

“Not in an animosity type of way but if he does play, you know what I’m saying, it’d be cool to play against him again,” Deatrich Wise Jr. told Adams Jones and Rich Keefe on WEEI’s “Jones & Keefe” on Thursday.

When Keefe said Jones would be a quarterback who would be easy to sack, Wise added, “It’s funny you say that. He’s actually very fast and very agile. When he played here, he definitely ran around and definitely broke some yardage his first couple years here. If he does actually play, we just got to make sure we contain him.”

Jones did feature in the Jaguars’ blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills last month, and he also cameoed in last week’s loss to the Chicago Bears. There’s a slim chance Sunday’s Patriots-Jaguars matchup is lopsided. But if it does end up being so, Jones could feature and it’ll be an enticing watch for New England fans.
