Glen Davis, a member of the 2008 champion Boston Celtics, was best known as “Big Baby” during his eight-year playing career. Now, the 38-year-old is better known as one of several fraudsters caught red-handed scamming the NBA Players’ Health and Benefit Welfare Plan.

Davis was sentenced to 40 months in prison in October 2021 but Judge Valerie E. Caproni granted him a brief sentencing delay so Davis could finish producing a documentary. The shot clock ran out on Davis on Tuesday as while the Celtics celebrated their record-18th championship at TD Garden with Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen — from the ’08 squad — a teary-eyed Davis sent a goodbye message before being locked behind bars.

“See y’all, man,” Davis said on Instagram, per TMZ. “Hey, y’all. Hey, y’all. Y’all be good.”

Fellow former Celtics Terrence Williams — the alleged ringleader of the operation — and Keyon Dooling, too, were among the 20-plus ex-players convicted for their involvement in the case. Davis was ordered to pay $80,000 in restitution, has been required to attend financial management classes, and will undergo mandatory drug treatment. The operation cost the NBA over $5 million, according to The Associated Press.

NBPA executive director Andre Iguodala, among former coaches and family members, submitted letters of testimony on behalf of Davis.

“On behalf of all of our NBPA members past and present, I respectfully ask that you consider Glen’s accomplishments and the positive impact he has had on those around him when determining his sentence,” Iguodala wrote, per ESPN. “I recognize the seriousness of this legal matter and appreciate the thoroughness of the judicial process and ask for leniency with these factors in mind.”

Now that he is officially behind bars, Davis’ tone might change from the carefree, laughter-filled demeanor he expressed back in July.

“I feel like I’m going to have good quality time in there,” Davis told TMZ. “Learn things, meet new people. It’s going to be all right. … Shout out to the ladies out there. Write me. I’ll be in there getting fine as hell. When I get out, call me Big Baby Jailbait!”

Dooling, 44, was sentenced to 30 months in prison, and Williams, 37, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
