The Red Sox are keen on keeping Rob Refsnyder in the mix.

Boston on Monday morning announced it exercised the club option in Refsnyder’s contract for the 2025 season, reportedly valued at a little over $2 million. The option was included in the contract extension the veteran outfielder signed with the club in June 2023.

With the option exercised, Refsnyder is set to play his fourth season with the Red Sox after spending time with five teams between 2015 and 2020. The 33-year-old is coming off a career season with Boston in which he set personal bests in games played (98), home runs (11), RBIs (40) and hits (77). Refsnyder’s leadership also remains invaluable to the Red Sox, whose roster is expected to feature even more young/inexperienced players next season.

The option pickup also seemingly squashed the possibility of Refsnyder’s retirement this offseason. The 10-year veteran claimed in August he was “undecided” about playing beyond the 2024 season, but manager Alex Cora made it clear he thought Refsnyder would stick around for another go-around with the Red Sox.

With Refsnyder locked in for another year, Boston currently has Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu and Masataka Yoshida joining their highly respected teammate on the outfield depth chart.
