BOSTON — Drake Maye keeps making impressive plays week in and week out for the Patriots. New England may not have enough wins to validate them, but Maye’s performance looks like one of a young franchise quarterback to build on as a rookie.

From his emerging leadership and relying on athleticism to extend plays, the Patriots have a potential star in Maye and their former Super Bowl champions know it.

“You finally got our quarterback of the future, this rookie,’ Hall of Fame cornerback Ty Law told NESN.com Friday at the Pedro Martinez Foundation gala.

Maye earned his first NFL win as a starter in Week 10 over the Chicago Bears. He continues to make all the throws and led the Patriots in rushing in multiple games since taking over in Week 6 for Jacoby Brissett. That dynamic profiles impressed Law so far.

“His escapability has been really impressive to me,” Law explained. “I didn’t know he had that type of escapability. Being able to use his legs. He threw some nice passes. From a decision standpoint, he’s just going to get better and better. I think that is our quarterback of the future.”
