Bill Simmons Loudly Calls Out Jerod Mayo With Specific Critique

Bill Simmons doesn’t believe Jerod Mayo is doing the Patriots any favors.

New England plays behind the eight ball virtually every week. That’s what happens when you feature one of the NFL’s least-talented rosters. But Simmons, a Mass. native and longtime diehard Patriots fan, believes weak coaching is another obstacle New England routinely needs to overcome.

The Ringer founder was back on Mayo’s case Sunday afternoon when the Patriots played a nightmarish first half against the Dolphins, who owned a 24-0 lead after two quarters at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.

“This spring, Jerod Mayo needs to find an author to help him write a book called Scared Football,” Simmons posted to X. “Just throw all his scared concepts and strategies in there — passing up 4th and 1s, handing off on 3rd and 16 to set up 45 yard FGs, just rattle all of them off. SCARED FOOTBALL.”

Unfortunately for Simmons, he probably will have to keep dealing with Maye once the 2024 season ends. Coming out of Week 11, Patriots coaches reportedly weren’t in jeopardy of losing their jobs.

Of course, that reported stance might need to be evaluated if New England plays terribly over its final six games.
