But that was before the organization took a massive step back against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
Mayo and Patriots defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington got “pantsed” against Miami’s offensive-minded head coach Mike McDaniel, as expressed by NESN.com’s Sean McGuire during the latest episode of NESN’s “Foxboro Rush.”
The performance prompted NESN’s George Balekji, Travis Thomas and McGuire to debate whether any coach might be on the chopping block.

“I’m not trying to say that I think he (Covington) will be fired, I guess I’m just trying to say that I think if you are to point at anyone, I think it does have to be him at this point.”
Balekji put it on Mayo to step in and help Covington on the defensive side.
