NJ.com’s Randy Miller is dubious about the New York Yankees’ chances of retaining superstar outfielder Juan Soto.
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, however, is hearing otherwise.
While Feinsand on Wednesday didn’t tab the Bronx Bombers as the clear-cut favorites to win the Soto sweepstakes, he’s under the impression that the Yankees and their neighborhood rival are the frontrunners.
More Juan Soto
“I have yet to speak to one person in the industry — executives, agents, etc. — who believes Soto will wind up with any team other than the Yankees or Mets,” Feinsand wrote. “If he signs with the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Dodgers or any team outside of New York, there will be some very surprised people in the baseball world.”
Other recent reports claimed the Yankees are “comfortable” with their standing with Soto after sweetening their offer. Hal Steinbrenner’s reported confidence is warranted, as Soto had a tremendous first season in the Bronx where the Yankees staged a World Series run.

The Mets, who fell a few wins shy of the 2024 Fall Classic, also should like their chances of landing Soto. Owner Steve Cohen never has shied away from big moves, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he goes the extra mile to bring in the four-time All-Star.
