The Red Sox weren’t the only team trying to acquire Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox.
Boston had to do some outbidding with Bob Nightengale of USA Today reporting on Thursday that the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies were all finalists for the left-hander.
It’s safe to say people were interested in the 25-year-old.
The Phillies and Reds were previously known to be suitors, as were the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, and Baltimore Orioles — with reports stating all were in discussions at one point or another with White Sox general manager Chris Getz.
LA signed Blake Snell, New York got their top option Max Fried and San Diego is looking to do some offloading of their own, so Boston really didn’t need to outbid those teams by much.

Chicago, Baltimore, Cincinnati and Philadelphia all had more than enough to compete, however, which likely drove up the price that included catcher Kyle Teel, pitcher Wikelman Gonzalez, infielder Chase Meidroth and outfielder Braden Montgomery. The Red Sox were happy to pay it, though, as they got their “bonafide ace” in return.
