The Yankees didn’t stand pat after missing out on Juan Soto. Instead, they pressed harder on the gas pedal.

New York made a pair of monster moves after watching Soto latch on with the Mets. And after signing starter Max Fried and trading for lights-out closer Devin Williams, the Bronx Bombers reportedly are gearing up for their next splash transaction.

“The New York Yankees now are expected to put on a full-court press to sign (Alex) Bregman and move Jazz Chisholm to second base, in what would be their latest big move since losing Juan Soto to the New York Mets in free agency,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote in a column published Friday.

In wake of the Astros trading Kyle Tucker to the Chicago Cubs, Bregman now feels like a lock to leave Houston. The star third baseman reportedly wants a contract worth north of $200 million, and the Yankees already proved they’re willing to go above and beyond to add high-end talent.

Of course, New York likely will face stiff competition to sign one of the best position players still available on the open market. The Boston Red Sox reportedly are among the clubs with interest in Bregman, a two-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion.
