The Boston Bruins headed to their holiday break with a 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals on Monday night at TD Garden.

Elias Lindholm broke the 1-1 tie on a 2-on-1 with Brad Marchand with 6:19 left in regulation and Charlie Coyle added the insurance goal 2:17 later to give the Bruins a two-goal lead.

The Bruins opened the scoring in the first period when Justin Brazeau tallied his fourth power-play goal of the season to give Boston a 1-0 lead with under a minute to play in the opening frame.

Washington got the equalizer when Brandon Carlo was sitting in the penalty box for interfering with Capitals forward Tom Wilson. Jakub Varna potted his seventh goal of the season to tie the game 1-1.

The Bruins played the majority of the third period short two forwards.

David Pastrnak exited the contest in the second period with an upper-body injury and did not return for the final 20 minutes. And just 10 seconds into the final frame, Oliver Wahlstrom was called a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding Capitals defenseman Martin Fehervary.

The Bruins not only kept the Capitals off the board during the penalty kill but also held Washington to just one shot on goal.

Marchand, who added an empty net goal to secure the Bruins win, extended his point streak to 10 games with a goal and two assists.
