One of the NFL’s best teams was forced to tweak its quarterback room Thursday.
Ian Book signed to the Eagles’ practice squad three days before Philadelphia’s Week 17 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. The Birds listed Jalen Hurts (concussion) as a did-not-participate player for Wednesday’s projected practice and backup signal-caller Kenny Pickett is dealing with a rib issue.
The reported transaction marked the start of Book’s second stint in the City of Brotherly Love, where he latched on after spending his rookie season in New Orleans. The Eagles waived Book in late August 2023 and watched him sign to the Patriots’ practice squad a little over two weeks later. However, the Notre Dame product only spent five days in New England before he was released again.
Book, who seemingly still resides behind third-stringer Tanner McKee on the Eagles’ QB depth chart, only has one NFL regular-season appearance under his belt since he entered the league as a fourth-round pick in 2021. The 26-year-old made one start for the Saints in December 2021 and was intercepted on two of his 20 pass attempts.
