Fabian Lysell made his NHL debut Saturday night for the Boston Bruins.
He will have to wait a little bit longer to play his second game. Bruins general manager Don Sweeney announced Sunday that the team assigned Lysell to Providence.
Even though the 2021 Boston first-round draft pick didn’t register a single shot on goal, Lysell had a decent outing — logging 11:32 of ice time across 15 shifts, including 1:02 on the power play.
“I thought he really tried tonight,” Bruins interim head coach Joe Sacco told reporters after Boston’s 4-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. “I thought he made a conscious effort on his play away from the puck to be good. I thought he was trying to make good reads defensively.”
Lysell might not have shown up in the score sheet, but he made a nice play on Justin Brazeau’s first-period goal.

“He was on the ice for the first goal, so that always feels good when it’s your first NHL game,” Sacco said. “I’m sure it’s something he’ll always remember.”
The Bruins return to action Tuesday night. They travel to Washington to face the Capitals at Capital One Arena. The puck drops at 12:30 p.m. ET, and NESN’s pregame coverage starts at 11:30 a.m.
