Red Sox Hint At Interest In Game-Changing Star Player

The Boston Red Sox have made significant moves to bolster the starting rotation by adding Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler to the pitching staff.

Next on the agenda for Boston is balancing the lineup with a right-handed batter. At least that is the goal for Craig Breslow. However, finding an impactful right-handed bat does not necessarily mean acquiring a new player outside of the Red Sox organization.

Breslow was asked directly about free agent infielder Alex Bregman when he met with the media virtually Monday afternoon, but he wouldn’t confirm or deny whether the Red Sox were pursuing the two-time World Series champion.

“As you can probably imagine, I am not going to speak about specific pursuits,” Breslow said. “I can say that right-handed bats that we feel like could play well at our park are certainly of interest to us and we remain engaged on a number of fronts.”

“I think in a perfect world, we’re getting elite-level production from a right-handed bat in the middle of the lineup. I think it stretches out the lineup it balances out guys like Jarren (Duran) and (Rafael Devers) and Triston (Casas) and (Masataka Yoshida) and others, but I also think that that production could come from a number of places. There are guys internally that may be willing to, may be able to take a step forward and we’re certainly also engaged in conversations for players that aren’t yet in the organization.”

While the Red Sox have been linked to Bregman throughout the offseason, Breslow was careful with his words, declining to directly address a potential pursuit of the All-Star infielder.

“At the end of the day, I’m trying to build the best roster that I possibly can,” Breslow said. “And we need to be willing to pursue any path that gets us there.”
