Three-time Patriots Super Bowl champion Devin McCourty may have just channeled Nostradamus when he appeared on Friday’s “Up & Adams” show.

The legendary Patriots safety sensed Jerod Mayo and his coaching staff were not feeling 100% safe about their jobs heading into New England’s Week 18 matchup with the Bills.

Following New England’s bittersweet win over Buffalo, Robert Kraft announced the Patriots fired Mayo after a lone season at the helm, leading the team to an abysmal 4-13 record.

McCourty explained why he thought Kraft made the decision during Sunday Night Football on NBC.

“You could tell the last few weeks just a lot of things — whether it was players talking about the fans, whether it was media things happening,” McCourty said, according to CLNS Media’s Mike Kadlick. “I think the Krafts said, ‘You know what? We have an opportunity to take advantage of another candidate out there.’ And they made that decision. Tough call for Mayo, you only get one year at this dream job. Really hard situation.”

With another coaching vacancy in New England for the second straight year, expect the Patriots to be much more diligent in their search for Mayo’s successor. Even though many insiders have tabbed former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel as the favorite to take over on the New England sidelines.
