The New England Patriots made progress Thursday in their head coaching search.

Mike Vrabel, the widely viewed favorite for New England’s vacancy, officially met with the Patriots in-person in Boston Thursday, per a team post to the X platform.

Ben Johnson is still set to virtually interview with the Patriots on Friday morning before returning to playoff preparations as offensive coordinator with the Detroit Lions. New England also completed interviews earlier this week with Pep Hamilton and Byron Leftwich.

Vrabel was head coach for six seasons with the Tennessee Titans and already showed the rest of the league he can win at the helm of a team. The Patriots learned that in a playoff loss in what turned out to be Tom Brady’s final game with New England.

If Vrabel is inevitably the man for the job with New England, the organization can make this happen pretty quickly if they come to that decision.
