BOSTON — The Red Sox will be the subject of yet another documentary, but this one is going to be a bit more revealing.

“The Clubhouse: A Year with the Red Sox” will chronicle the club’s 2024 season. Netflix cameras followed players, coaches and personnel throughout the season as the docuseries promises a behind-the-scenes look at life in the big leagues.

“Fenway Fest” featured the very first look at the eight-episode docuseries directed by Greg Whiteley, with fans in the crowd being accessed to a sneak preview. NESN’s Tom Caron then held a panel with Whitely and four stars of the series: manager Alex Cora, shortstop Trevor Story, first baseman Triston Casas and outfielder Wilyer Abreu.

Whitely was asked about the biggest hurdle his crew had to clear, and the answer might not be shocking if you paid attention to the team last season.

“We had a budget that was supposed to last us 162 games,” Whitely said. “We blew one-third of that just in spring training alone. It’s difficult because you can’t tell me which game you’re going to have a pivotal, season-changing moment… I’d say that was our biggest hurdle.”

Yes, he’s serious.

MassLive’s Christopher Smith caused quite a stir when he reported that he hadn’t seen the crew in “at least a month” back on Sept. 4. The Red Sox weren’t exactly the most interesting team in baseball at that point, so we’re not surprised that the crew stopped showing up.

Netflix seemingly confirmed that the decision wasn’t entirely intentional, though.

It’s still worth your time, in case anyone was wondering, as the sneak preview promised inside looks at some pretty incredible moments — which NESN already outlined. Netflix just needs to work on its budgeting.
