The Patriots have a new leader on the sideline, but that might not be the case in the front office.

Mike Vrabel, who was announced as New England’s head coach on Sunday, reportedly will bring Ryan Cowden with him to Foxboro, Mass. Cowden spent the last two seasons working with the New York Giants as the executive advisor to general manager Joe Schoen and previously served as the Tennessee Titans director of player personnel and vice president of player personnel.

What might that mean for Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf?

Yahoo’s Charles Robinson on Sunday reported Wolf is expected to retain personnel power. Cowden will be added to the mix, but not with the general manager title. The hiring of Cowden is Vrabel’s preference, per Robinson.

Robinson added the kicker: “Dynamics will be interesting.”

They certainly will.

Wolf’s standing within the organization has been a popular topic of conversation after the firing of first-year head coach Jerod Mayo. Patriots owner Robert Kraft said Wolf would be “staying on” and taking part in the coaching search, but left some wiggle room in regard to what his role would be with a new coach.

Kraft will introduce Vrabel as the team’s head coach at Gillette Stadium on Monday and surely will be asked how the hiring impacts the personnel department.
