There’s been conflicting reports about a former Mike Vrabel assistant following the recently-named head coach to the Patriots.
The latest, however, is that Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen wants to remain in New York and will not head to New England, according to the New York Post’s Paul Schwartz.
“The belief, according to sources, is that Bowen wants to remain with the Giants and that Vrabel is thinking of going in a different direction as he assembles his new coaching staff,” Schwartz wrote Sunday afternoon.

Bowen worked under Vrabel for six seasons when the two were with the Tennessee Titans (2018-23). The 38-year-old Bowen elevated from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator but was not retained after Vrabel was fired following the 2023 campaign.
NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo on Sunday questioned if the Patriots could “pry” Bowen away from the Giants, but it appears he won’t be coming to New England.
