The Black and Gold have become the black and blue, and the litany of Bruins injuries could be an opportunity for one of the team’s top prospects.
Boston made a handful of roster moves Tuesday morning ahead of its clash with the Tampa Bay Lightning at TD Garden which will see Matthew Poitras rejoin the big club.
The Bruins placed defenseman Charlie McAvoy and forward Mark Kastelic on injured reserve. The club also moved Hampus Lindholm to long-term injury reserve. In addition to recalling Poitras, defenseman Michael Callahan is making the trek from Providence to Boston ahead of Tuesday night’s puck drop.
It’s unclear what McAvoy is dealing with, but Bruins coach Joe Sacco indicated the injury has lingered recently, and the B’s want the defenseman to have some time to heal. Kastelic, meanwhile, suffered an upper body injury in a late-game scrap last week against Tampa Bay when he was cross-checked in the face before a fight in the final seconds of a loss to the Lightning.
The Lindholm move isn’t exactly a surprise since he’s been out since Nov. 12. The blueliner did, however, resume skating recently, although he still is going through the rehab process.

While the call-up comes under less-than-ideal circumstances for Poitras, it is an opportunity for the 20-year-old. He started the season with the Bruins, scoring a goal and adding three assists in 14 games before being sent to Providence. Poitras looked better in the AHL, compiling 8-12-20 totals in 23 games with the Baby B’s.
Poitras centered a line with Oliver Wahlstrom and Trent Frederic at morning skate. His place in the lineup might be influenced by the status of Charlie Coyle, who is a game-time decision with an illness.
