The rut the Boston Celtics are in has stretched on for a month now and featured defeats that at the moment feel like the worst loss of the season.
But the Celtics arguably set a new low Wednesday night when they were embarrassed at Scotiabank Arena with a 110-97 loss to the putrid Toronto Raptors.
The Celtics are an uncharacteristic 7-7 in their last 14 games and the uninspiring play led star center Kristaps Porzingis to call out the team for how it performed against the Raptors.
“I think we played with no spirit, with no personality,” Porzingis told reporters, per NBC Sports Boston. “Like a weak performance from us, honestly. We just played with no personality right now.”
The Celtics showed little to no fight against the Raptors. Toronto led for almost the entirety of the second half and the Celtics failed to chip away at the deficit once the Raptors pushed their lead to double digits early in the fourth quarter.

Boston surely didn’t dig in on the defensive end, either. The Raptors got whatever they wanted offensively and shot 73.7% from the floor in the third quarter and 50.6% from the field for the game.
It’s certainly a concerning stretch for the reigning NBA champions, but Porzingis, who tallied 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting in the loss, isn’t going to push the panic button yet.
“I think us individually have to look at ourselves, like where we can improve, what we need to do better. Are we fit? Are we feeling good? Are we locked in mentally? And try to fix some of the stuff that we have going on” Porzingis said. “It’s not the end of the world. Every team has ups and downs. Just tonight feels like (expletive) right now and we played some bad basketball.”
