Mike Felger proceeded full speed ahead, not that that’ll surprise anyone familiar with the Boston radio host.
Felger, the co-host of 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Felger & Mazz” radio show, shredded Patriots quarterback Drake Maye on Tuesday for not returning from vacation to attend Mike Vrabel’s introductory press conference. Felger was on an island himself with his opinion, but it nevertheless caused a stir among Boston sports fans.
“It’s not like this guy, this kid, is like an electrician and he gets four weeks (off) and he’s got three days and then he’s back on the job. He doesn’t have to report to work for three months!” Felger said Wednesday afternoon, before he was interrupted and informed of Maye’s engagement announcement.

It didn’t throw Felger off the take, though.
“OK. Congratulations,” Felger said. “I told you, I got married and came back the first time — I’ve been married twice — the first one three days later I was in Ottawa covering the Bruins and on this one (current marriage) … wanted to get married in the fall. ‘OK. Well, I cover the Patriots.’ This is back in 2000. We got to do it on the bye week. We did it on the bye week and then three days later I was back in Foxboro.

“All I’m saying is, it’s not unusual to make work a priority and for it to be important and for you to balance the two. So just because he got engaged, I’m still not sitting there saying, ‘OK, well I get why he didn’t come back.’ You can still come back. You can get engaged and come back. You can say, ‘I’ll meet you there in a couple days — I’ll be back in 36 hours and do it then.’ That doesn’t mean anything to me.”
When co-host Tony Massarotti pushed back and said the announcement proved Maye had a “good reason” to miss the press conference, Felger responded: “It’s a reason.”
“As far as I know, there’s no requirement that you have to get engaged on a certain day. It’s up to you when you present the ring,” Felger said. “You can extend the trip by a day or two when you have three months off and do that thing. … I’m not standing down on it.”
