Former New England Patriots linebacker Jermaine Cunningham was arrested at his Summit, N.J., apartment on Dec. 29 and now faces a series of criminal charges, according to theĀ Union County prosecutor’s office.
Cunningham, who signed with the New York Jets in November 2013 after the Patriots released him, was arrested after police responded to a domestic dispute at his home. According to NJ.com, prosecutor’s office spokesman Mark Spivey didn’t provide many details about what prompted the call or who made it.
After the investigation was complete, Cunningham was charged with third-degree invasion of privacy under a state law that prohibits the disclosure of sexual images of a person without the individual’s consent and third-degree criminal mischief for the destruction of clothing, according to Spivey, per NJ.com.
Police also discovered a loaded .380-caliber handgun in the glove compartment of Cunningham’s Audi. He consented to the search, according to police.
Cunningham was processed and released without bail.
Cunningham, 26, was a second-round draft pick by the Patriots in 2010. He spentĀ the entire 2014 season on the Jets’ injured reserve after tearing his Achilles during training camp.Ā Cunningham will be an unrestricted free agent in March.
