It hasn’t necessarily been easy for the Chiefs, and narrow escapes against the Texans and Browns the last couple of weeks prove that. But in the NFL, all that matters is that win-loss record.
Speaking of win-loss records, NESN.com’s John Beattie and Mike Cole weren’t awful with their Week 8 picks last week. Then again, they weren’t good. But it’s about the record, still, which means they’re more like the Texans than the Chiefs.
Either way, it’s back to another week of predicting football games. Here are their Week 9 picks.
All lines are from Bovada as of Thursday. If lines are off on Bovada Thursday, Yahoo! lines will be used for those games.
John Beattie: Bengals
Mike Cole: Bengals
Why: This Dalton fella is kind of growing on me. – JB
John Beattie: Panthers
Mike Cole: Panthers
Why: That line seems huge at first glance, but the Panthers beat up on bad teams, and the Falcons are the definition of a bad team with how they are playing right now. Carolina needs this more. -MC
John Beattie: Vikings
Mike Cole: Vikings
Why: Dallas has a weak record against the spread in this situation and I really don’t like putting Romo in the hole by more than 10 points. – JB
John Beattie: Saints
Mike Cole: Saints
Why: If you watched any of the Jets game last week where they lost by 40 freaking points, it’s easy to see the Saints winning by a touchdown even at the Meadowlands. -MC
John Beattie: Titans
Mike Cole: Titans
Why: The Rams won their Super Bowl last weekend in their loss to the Seahawks. – JB
John Beattie: Chiefs
Mike Cole: Chiefs
Why: Man, this one is tough. The Chiefs don’t really blow anyone out, and the Bills have been a pesky bunch at times this year. That being said, the Chiefs are rolling, and they’re 3-0 against the spread on the road, so why not? -MC
John Beattie: Chargers
Mike Cole: Chargers
Why: San Diego has a good record against the spread and they’re facing a Skins team that gives up a lot of points. – JB
John Beattie: Raiders
Mike Cole: Raiders
Why: The Raiders may actually have something in Terrelle Pryor while the Eagles are starting Matt Barkley. Sometimes it’s really that simple. -MC
John Beattie: Seahawks
Mike Cole: Seahawks
Why: Even without Rice, the ‘Hawks should cover this one pretty easily at home. – JB
John Beattie: Browns
Mike Cole: Ravens
Why: This game — LOL. -MC
John Beattie: Patriots
Mike Cole: Patriots
Why: The Steelers can’t cover this year. – JB
John Beattie: Colts
Mike Cole: Colts
Why: This line seems a little low, which should set off some sort of red flag, but have you watched the Texans lately? -MC
John Beattie: Packers
Mike Cole: Packers
Why: The Packers are 8-0 ATS in their last eight games as home favorites. – JB
JB: 6-7
MC: 7-6
MC: 47-68-4
JB: 46-69-4
