UPDATE (Noon): The Tampa Bay Buccaneers confirmed they have traded tight end Tim Wright to the Detroit Lions for kicker Kyle Brindza.
ORIGINAL STORY: Tim Wright is on the move again.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded Wright to the Detroit Lions on Monday for backup kicker Kyle Brindza, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.
This marks the second consecutive season Wright has been traded, as the Bucs shipped the tight end to the New England Patriots in June 2014 for Pro Bowl offensive lineman Logan Mankins.
Wright hauled in 26 passes for 259 yards and six touchdowns last season with the Patriots. He was released by New England over the offseason before landing back with Tampa Bay.
Monday’s trade should, in theory, give both Wright and Brindza a better chance of winning jobs to open the season. The move gives Detroit some tight end depth behind Brandon Pettigrew and 2014 first-round draft pick Eric Ebron.
