If you have C.J. Anderson on your fantasy football team, you probably aren’t happy with him right now.
And that’s just too darn bad.
The Denver Broncos running back, projected by many to be a top fantasy performer after a strong finish in 2014, has been underwhelming to say the least in 2015. He’s posted a grand total of 56 rushing yards through two weeks, producing a whopping six fantasy points in standard-scoring leagues.
Apparently, Anderson has been catching considerable grief from the fantasy world, because he took the opportunity after a recent Broncos practice to fire back at his critics.
“I don’t go to other people’s jobs and tell them: ‘Hey, you (stink). You’re trash,'” Anderson told the Denver Post.
The 24-year-old took his comments one step further, telling owners to just get rid of him rather than complain about his lack of performance.
“You can sit me for 17 weeks. It would not bother me one bit. I don’t care,” Anderson said. “I saw something on ESPN: ‘Is C.J. Anderson a fantasy bust?’ I wish I could call ESPN and say: ‘Tell them to drop me. … Every owner can drop me.'”
This obviously isn’t the first time a player has taken heat for failing to live up to fantasy expectations, and it’s another good reality check for fans who take their passion for fantasy a little too far.
As for whether you should heed Anderson’s advice and drop him: Don’t cut him loose just yet. The Broncos face a weak Detroit Lions run defense in Week 3, and if Denver’s inexperienced offensive line can jell as a unit, better days could be ahead for the team’s star running back.
