For most leagues, the fantasy football playoffs either already have begun or will start very soon. If your league still allows pickups, that means you’ve got some work to do.
Whether you’re hoping for a playoff upgrade or playing spoiler for someone looking to do so, here are our best Week 13 waiver wire pickups at each position.
Quarterback: Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans
Mariota has been terrific over the past month, during which he’s averaged 18.5 fantasy points per game in standard scoring leagues. Take out a stinker against a Carolina Panthers defense that might be the best in the NFL, and that number rises to 22.3 points per contest. Those pondering adding Mariota will be licking their chops when they realize the rookie QB has Jacksonville up next in Week 13.
Other quarterbacks to add: Jay Cutler, Jameis Winston
Running Back: Shaun Draughn, San Francisco 49ers
In three games as San Francisco’s lead running back, Draughn has added a decent wrinkle to the offense. While he hasn’t topped 58 yards rushing or found the end zone yet, he has caught 17 passes for 108 yards, which means 27 extra fantasy points in PPR leagues. He faces a mediocre Chicago Bears defense in Week 13.
Other running backs to add: David Johnson, Theo Riddick, Brandon Bolden
Wide Receiver: Anquan Boldin, San Francisco 49ers
OK, not to harp on the 49ers here, but it appears new quarterback Blaine Gabbert has taken a liking to Boldin. The 35-year-old receiver has tallied 93 receiving yards in back-to-back games, and he’s bound to find the end zone eventually. He gets the Bears and the Cleveland Browns in his next two contests.
Other receivers to add: Dontrelle Inman, Doug Baldwin
Tight End: Julius Thomas, Jacksonville Jaguars
Thomas has found the endzone in back-to-back games and produced a terrific nine-catch, 116-yard performance in Week 12. He’s still out there in about 40 percent of leagues and doesn’t face a particularly difficult defense (aside from the banged-up Cincinnati Bengals) the rest of the way. Thomas’ targets only will increase if wide receiver Allen Hurns misses any time due to injury.
Other tight ends to add: Scott Chandler, Crockett Gilmore
