Daily Fantasy Golf Picks For British Open: Jason Day, Adam Scott Lead Way

Few golfers are choosing to play in the 2016 Summer Olympics, but luckily the same can’t be said for this week’s British Open.

Golf’s stars of yesteryear, today and tomorrow will be at Royal Troon for the 145th British Open. Zach Johnson will try to defend his British Open crown against a stacked field that includes the “Big Three” of Jordan Spieth, Jason Day and Rory McIlroy, along with familiar faces like Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els.

So let’s take a look at the five golfers we recommend starting in your daily fantasy lineups.

Jason Day
Day was this close to winning the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, but a few too many Sunday mistakes left the door open for Dustin Johnson. Still, Day has three wins and only one missed cut this season, and he came in a tie for fourth at last year’s British Open, although he stumbled late there, too. He is about as close to a sure thing there is for daily fantasy golf players.

Adam Scott
Scott has never won the British Open, although he should have in 2012, but he’s come close multiple times. He’s finished in the top 10 in each of the last four Opens, and he’s a perfect 14-for-14 in made cuts this season, although his best finish since back-to-back wins at The Honda Classic and WGC-Cadillac Championship was a tie for 10th at Firestone over Fourth of July Weekend.

Sergio Garcia
Garcia might never win a major, but he’s still a smart play in your fantasy lineup this weekend. He has nine top 10s in his British Open career, and he enters this weekend with three straight top fives, including a win at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Branden Grace
Grace has had quite the year with a win at RBC Heritage and eight top 25s in 12 events. He also has made the cut in each of his five British Open appearances, and he’s made the top 10 in five of his last six PGA Tour events in 2016.

Jordan Spieth
The Spieth of 2016 certainly hasn’t been like the 2015 version, but he still has two wins and 11 top 25s in 15 appearances this season, including a tie for third at Firestone. Spieth’s bid for history came to an end at St. Andrews last year, but he still managed to finish in a tie for fourth at the British Open.

Sleeper: Ernie Els
He’s only made the cut in nine of his 16 PGA Tour appearances this season, but he’s coming off a solo fifth at the Quicken Loans National after four straight missed cuts. He also knows this course more than most in the field, as he lost in a playoff the last time the British Open was held at Royal Troon in 2004.
