Fantasy Football Week 9 Waiver Wire: Must-Drop Players From Your Lineup

There were quite a few injuries for fantasy football owners to be concerned about in Week 8, which could make waiver wire usage a key part of being successful in Week 9.

Don’t waste roster spots on injured players or guys who aren’t meeting expectations. Here are five players to consider dropping entering Week 9.

Alex Smith, QB, Kansas City Chiefs
Smith left Sunday’s win over the Indianapolis Colts on two occasions after taking hits to the head, and he officially was ruled out the second time with a concussion. Smith hasn’t thrown for 300 yards or more in a single game since Week 1, and he has thrown one or fewer touchdown passes in four of seven games. You probably owned Smith as a bye week replacement, anyway, and his latest injury makes him useless in that regard.

Mark Ingram, RB, New Orleans Saints
Ingram has been disappointing for fantasy owners who drafted him as an RB2. He has scored only one rushing touchdown through seven games, along with zero 100-yard games. Ingram also has fumbled in back-to-back weeks, and it resulted in him being benched during the Saints’ win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 8. It’s time to drop or trade Ingram because his value in non-PPR leagues is pretty low right now.

T.J. Yeldon, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Yeldon has carried the ball six or fewer times in each of the last three games, and it’s almost impossible to be fantasy relevant with that low of a workload. The Jaguars also are a bad team and trail early in most games, forcing them to abandon the running gam and throw often in the second half. Yeldon hasn’t scored a touchdown since Week 1, and he has run for 39 or fewer yards in every game except one.

Will Fuller, WR, Houston Texans
Fuller looked like he would be a fantasy stud after a stellar Week 1 performance, but recent games and a leg injury that forced him to leave Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions are concerning. The rookie wideout has tallied just six receptions for 49 yards and zero touchdowns over the last three games combined. It also doesn’t help that Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler has struggled throughout the season.

Tyler Lockett, WR, Seattle Seahawks
Lockett has talent — there’s no question about that — but he just hasn’t been productive enough to justify owning him on your roster. He has tallied just 17 receptions for 197 yards and zero touchdowns through seven games, and he has totaled 32 or fewer yards in six of those contests. Russell Wilson’s injury issues and Seattle’s offensive line struggles make every Seahawks wide receiver except Doug Baldwin not worth owning.
