NFL Odds: Patriots Favored Over Jets In Latest AFC East Rivalry Game
The New England Patriots will look to stay undefeated on the road this season when they travel to New Jersey on Sunday to face the New York Jets as 7 1/2-point betting favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Patriots have been dominant on the road, claiming victory by double-digit margins in each of their past four such outings. That road success has fueled a 5-1 straight-up run that leaves New England with a two-game lead atop the AFC East standings going into Sunday afternoon’s Patriots vs. Jets betting matchup at MetLife Stadium.
The Patriots also have been a strong bet at the sportsbooks, recording against-the-spread victories in each of this season’s five road games, including last week’s 30-17 win at San Francisco as 11-point chalk and their 33-13 victory at Cleveland while favored by 10 points back in Week 5.
Last week’s victory also marked the sixth time in eight games that New England has held an opponent to 17 or fewer points. But despite those stingy defensive performances, the point total has finished over in three of the club’s last five games, according to the OddsShark NFL Database.
While the Patriots enter Week 12 on cruise control, the Jets are searching for answers after posting two consecutive SU and ATS losses.
The Jets are coming off a disappointing 9-6 loss to Los Angeles as 1 1/2-point home underdogs, dropping them to 3-7 on the campaign. New York fell short of 300 total yards of offense in its loss to the Rams, while Jets passers have failed to crack 200 aerial yards in four of the last five games.
However, the Jets’ ground game continues to produce, averaging over 151 rushing yards per game over their past four outings and producing five total touchdowns.
Veteran running back Matt Forte has accounted for four of those scoring runs, while averaging 93 rushing yards per game over his last four. Forte is expected to keep busy against the Patriots, who have surrendered 120 or more yards on the ground in three of five.
While the Jets have fallen well out of playoff contention, their recent success in home games against New England cannot be overlooked. They posted a 26-20 win over the Patriots in Week 16 of last season as 2 1/2-point underdogs in their second outright victory over New England in three home meetings.
New England has otherwise dominated, going 8-2 SU in the last 10 matchups overall. But New York holds the edge at the sportsbooks, covering in six of the past eight clashes, and the Jets have held the Patriots to 20 or fewer points in three of their past six meetings.
