According to the Boston Herald, the Celtics are expected to sign free agent shooting guard Marquis Daniels on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-6 guard is reportedly set to sign a contract for the biannual exception after the Celtics and the Pacers — the team Daniels is leaving — were trying to work out a sign-and-trade deal. The sign-and-trade deal would have freed up some roster space for Daniels, who is expected to make more than $2 million for the 2009-10 season.
In 54 games (43 starts) for Indiana last season, Daniels averaged 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in 31.5 minutes per game. In six seasons in the NBA, Daniels has started 109 of 351 games and is averaging 9.4 points and 2.1 assists per game. The former Auburn Tiger broke into the league in 2003 with the Dallas Mavericks. Despite playing his second-fewest number of games last year due to a groin injury, 2008-09 was his most productive season offensively in the NBA.

2006-07: $1.75 million
2007-08: $1.83 million
2008-09: $1.91 million
2009-10: $1.99 million
2010-11: $2.08 million
