Leigh Bodden would prefer to remain a Patriot rather than hit the open market, but the free-agent-to-be is not going to undervalue himself.

At this point, Bodden is playing it cool, The Boston Globe reports.

"I did talk to Bill [Belichick], but all the business has to be done through my agent and those guys over there," Bodden said in an interview with Sirius NFL Radio's Late Hits program. "It's just, first and foremost, trying to talk to the Patriots and seeing if we can get something done there."

The seven-year veteran cornerback thrived in Belichick's defense, recording five interceptions in 14 games with New England last season, an experience Bodden enjoyed.

"Bill Belichick's one of the best coaches there is. So you can't really question what he does and how he does things, because he's been successful with it," Bodden, 28, said. "He knows what it takes to win. But he also listens to his players, as far as if things work or don’t work."

Bodden's best game as a Patriot came in late November against the Jets, when he intercepted Mark Sanchez three times, returning one of the picks 53-yards for a touchdown in the team's 31-14 win.

Bodden earned NFL Defensive Player of the Week honors with the performance, and thanked Sanchez when he saw the Jets' quarterback during Super Bowl week in Miami.
