The road to recovery officially begins for Wes Welker as the wide receiver underwent successful knee surgery on Tuesday, according to the Boston Herald.

The procedure was done by Dr. Thomas Gill at Mass. General Hospital to repair torn ligaments in his left knee. The NFL's leader in receptions this season tore both his ACL and MCL in the last regular season game of the year — a 34-27 loss to the Texans in Houston.

Welker had 123 receptions for 1,348 yards and four touchdowns in 2009.
