FORT MYERS, Fla. — An injury — no matter how minor it may be — is not what Mike Lowell needed to happen on Friday. That didn't matter, though, as the veteran fouled a pitch off his own knee and needed help off the field in the first inning of the Red Sox' 3-2 win over Toronto.

X-rays were negative on Lowell, though Terry Francona said that he expects Lowell to be out at least a day, according to NESN.com's Tony Lee.

"X-rays came back negative. Saying that, he took a pretty good shot … it didn't just get bone," Francona said after the game, adding that having Lowell DH on Saturday was not realistic. "They are icing the heck out of him."

In four games thus far this spring, Lowell is 1-for-10 with two strikeouts. Francona would not say whether the setback would affect Lowell's chances of making the 25-man roster on Opening Day.
