Former major leaguer Jose Lima has died of a massive heart attack at his home in Los Angeles.

“Jose was complaining while sleeping and I just thought he was having a nightmare,” his wife, Dorca Astacio told ESPNdeportes.com. “I called the paramedics, but they couldn’t help him.”

Lima, who was 37-years-old, went 89-102 with a 5.26 ERA over 13 big-league seasons with the Astros, Tigers, Royals, Mets and Dodgers from 1994-2006.

“This is a shock for us because Lima was a young man who seemed healthy
and nobody imagined this,” said manager Tomas Jimenez of the Aguilas
Cibaenas, the Dominican club Lima played for last winter.

His best season came in 1999 when he went 21-10 with a 3.58 ERA in Houston. That season, he made his first and only career All-Star game (played at Fenway Park) and went on to finish fourth in Cy Young Award voting.
