Amid speculation that the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady are struggling to work out a long-term contract extension, they may actually be closer than many think.

According to ESPN.com, the Patriots quarterback and the team are moving forward with talks of a contract extension and both sides are hopeful that a deal will get done before the end of the summer.

The report cites a source that has said "… there is ongoing dialogue that [the source] described as positive and while no deal is imminent, one now is within reach."

The report also compares the negotiations between the Patriots and Brady to those of other star quarterbacks who are trying to work out extensions with their teams. The website claims that Brady's negotiations are further along than those of Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Brady has one year left on his current contract.
