Bill Belichick Jokingly Dismisses ‘Matchup’ With Rex Ryan, Says Focus Is Solely on Patriots

Who said Rex Ryan was the only guy with jokes?

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick had a little fun with the media Monday, and while he wasn't wearing a wig or some type of zany costume — at least, that's what we'll assume, since it was a conference call — Belichick responded to more comments from the Jets' football boss.

Earlier Monday, Ryan told the New York media it would be him against Belichick this Sunday when the AFC East rivals meet at Gillette in the divisional playoffs. Belichick was asked if that's how he looked at the matchup, too.

"I think I might have a little quickness on him," Belichick said. "He's probably got a little strength and power on me. I don't think you'll see either one of us out there making any blocks or tackles or runs or throws or catches — at least you won't see me doing that. It's probably a good thing for our team."

Later, in a more serious tone, Belichick was asked for his thoughts on Ryan's style with the media, and he had a more subtle answer.

"I just try to coach my team," Belichick said. "I don't really worry about everybody else coaching theirs. Everybody's got their own style, and a lot of coaches do a great job. Rex does a great job with his team, so I'm just trying to coach mine. I'm not really worried about what anybody else is doing."
