The Patriots-Jets week got off to a predictable start.
The Jets talked trash, and Pats head coach Bill Belichick answered by, well, not answering.
Belichick was asked Sunday if he had any response to last week’s comments from New York head coach Rex Ryan, who said Patriots quarterback Tom Brady wasn’t as good of a student as Colts counterpart Peyton Manning.
“I really don’t think a whole lot about stuff like that,” Belichick said. “I just try to coach our team. I think you’d have to ask Rex or somebody else about that. Whoever said it, whatever the context was, I don’t know. I’m just trying to worry about getting our team ready.”
After the sixth-seeded Jets beat the No. 3 Colts on Saturday night — assuring a third meeting between New York and New England in the divisional playoffs — the Jets immediately took the opportunity to talk about the Patriots. The Jets said it’s payback time, they remember the Pats celebrating during the 45-3 win and think that they’re a better team than New England.
The Patriots, meanwhile, aren’t expected to engage in a media war with the Jets, and Belichick already displayed that tactic Sunday afternoon.
