John Tavares, Victor Hedman, Matt Duchene and Evander Kane dominated the national headlines heading into the 2009 NHL draft, but a sniper with local ties made the Boston area proud by going 18th overall … despite being plucked by rival Montreal.

This former Harvard sniper bagged 11 goals and 12 assists in his first and only year in Cambridge and took home Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors.

The native of Pointe Claire, Quebec — roughly 25 miles west of Montreal's Bell Centre — led Canada to a World Junior Championships gold medal in 2008 by notching three goals and two assists in the tourney.
