Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall posted some questionable tweets regarding the celebration of the death of Osama bin Laden, prompting team president Art Rooney II to issue a statement on Tuesday.

"I have not spoken with Rashard, so it is hard to explain or even comprehend what he meant with his recent Twitter comments," Rooney said in a statement on the team's website. "The entire Steelers organization is very proud of the job our military personnel have done and we can only hope this leads to our troops coming home soon."

Mendenhall's tweets in question argued that people should not be celebrating the death of anyone and hinted that Americans have a very biased view of bin Laden.

"What kind of person celebrates death? It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side …" he wrote.

Mendenhall also seemed to subscribe to the theory that the World Trade Center was blown up by explosives and was not demolished by the airplanes that crashed into the buildings.

"We'll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style," Mendenhall wrote.

Even putting aside the bin Laden and Sept. 11 tweets, Mendenhall's Twitter feed has some rather interesting comments on how women should treat men.

"Women, if you don't #respect your man someone else will," he wrote, later offering advice to women on how to avoid having their significant others cheat on them.

He added: "Whenever you see a man and wonder 'why he's with her?' it's cause she do things that you won't! #NASTY"

The Rooney family has owned the Steelers since 1933, and they were notably hard in their criticisms and desire for punishment of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger after he was accused of sexual assault for the second time last year.
