Mark Cuban, Mavericks Have Bigger Plans Than Traditional Championship Rings to Celebrate NBA Title

Not too many billionaires don t-shirts and jeans to events as big as the NBA Finals. Then again, there aren’t too many billionaires like Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

Cuban’s fan-like passion reached its peak Sunday night when his team claimed its first NBA championship in franchise history. However, Cuban doesn’t want to fall into the traditional way of celebrating basketball’s biggest prize — getting championship rings.

In a postgame interview with GameTime, Cuban claimed that “rings are done.”

The one-of-a-kind owner took over a Mavericks team in 2000 that was playing well below .500 for 20 seasons. With Dirk Nowitzki at the core, Cuban brought the Mavericks to the finals in 2006 for the first time in team history.

Five years later, they defeated the Miami Heat, the same team who smashed their championship dreams.

Cuban didn’t reveal what his plans are if the team indeed stays away from rings, but speculation has already begun. Custom Escalades, watches and even individual private jets are among potential memorabilia.

Unrealistic? Not with Cuban calling the shots.
