Dirk Nowitzki Encourages Tony Romo, Tells Cowboys Quarterback to Not Worry About Critics

There once was a time when Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki was known as a player who could get his when it came to filling up a stat sheet, but struggled to break through and play well when it mattered most.

Of course, the All-Star erased any sort of doubts this spring when he carried the Mavs to an NBA title, almost solely thanks to a historic run of basketball from Nowitzki.

Now that Nowitzki has reached the top of the basketball mountain — not to mention he now has a lot of free time on his hands thanks to a lockout — the future Hall of Famer is doling out career advice to another notable Dallas athlete.

Nowtizki used Twitter to send Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo some words of encouragement in the wake of the heaps of criticism Romo has received after another turnover-laden collapse on Sunday, this one coming against the Detroit Lions.

"Dear tony romo," the tweet read. "Don't worry [about] the critics. I heard that same garbage for a long time. Keep working hard and keep improving."

Romo threw three second-half interceptions on Sunday, doing his part to erase what was a 27-3 lead for the Cowboys. Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and the rest of the Lions used those turnovers to storm back for a 34-30 win to improve to 4-0.
