Report: Titans Thinking of Cutting Chris Johnson If He Doesn’t Improve His Play

Chris Johnson hasn't exactly had a memorable season. Through the Titans' first seven games, Johnson has rushed for only 302 yards, far below where he was in each of his first three NFL seasons, when he easily eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark each year and the 2,000-yard mark once.

Now, the Titans are wondering whether he is worth keeping around. Starting with the fifth day of the 2012 NFL season, a clause in Johnson's contract will kick in that would guarantee him his base salary of $8 million.

Several teams believe the Titans could release Johnson, who hasn't exactly been what the Titans thought they were getting when they signed him. In total, the move would save the team $17 million in guaranteed money if they cut him before March 2012.

Johnson will now need to convince his team that he is worth keeping around. The Titans face off against the Bengals on Sunday, who have a defense that has only allowed one 100-yard rushing performance this season.
